RETINAL LASER treatment for diabetic retinopathy Most of the diabetics, after five years of diabetes can develop bleeding and leakages on the retina of the eye. This is called diabetic retinopathy. It can cause permanent blindness in diabetics if not diagnosed and treated with laser photocoagulation in its early stages.
Unfortunately as per Dr Aphale's observation, a patient does show symptoms in early stages and it is detected only on routine eye examination by retinal laser surgeon. If a patient is detected to have diabetic retinopathy and bleeding and leakages are sealed with laser in time, chances of future blindness are significantly reduced. But, to detect the retinopathy and need of laser therapy, diabetic patient has to be periodically examined by retinal laser surgeon. Thus, routine eye check up of diabetic patient, early detection of retinopathy and its treatment with retinal photocoagulation can prevent blindness. YAG LASER AND OTHER SURGERIES In some patients, few months after cataract surgery, supporting capsule can become opaque and cause blurring of vision. This capsule can be cut with YAG laser and patient can regain vision without surgery.
